The LeFevre Quartet brings new life to a Southern Gospel classic

TEXAS GOSPEL VOLUNTEER

If The LeFevre Quartet’s new song sounds familiar, it’s likely because Southern Gospel fans have cherished “When My Feet Touch The Streets of Gold” for decades. Though many associate the song with the Kingsmen’s legendary 1981 live album Live – Naturally, that wasn’t the first time it was recorded.

“When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold” LeFevres Experience (1975) Songwriter: Conrad Cook Publisher: BMI

The song was written by Conrad Cook and first put to vinyl by the LeFevres (the family group, not the quartet) in 1975. It appeared on their album Experience the LeFevres and made the Singing News gospel chart in 1976, marking an early success for the group with this Southern Gospel classic.

If you’re not familiar with Conrad Cook, you probably have heard some of his music without knowing he was the writer. Cook was a gospel singer, songwriter and pianist for decades starting in the 1930’s. He penned songs like “The glory Road,” Is that the old ship of Zion,” and “Saints will rise.”

When My Feet Touch the Streets of Gold · LeFevre Quartet Here To Stay ℗ 2025 Daywind Records Released on: 2025-06-27 Lyrics by Conrad Cook

The title and lyrics of When My Feet Touch the Streets of Gold refer directly to the streets of gold mentioned in the Book of Revelation, speaking of God’s heavenly city, and also echo the biblical promise of seeing Jesus as described in 1 John 3:2. The song expresses a longing anticipation for the day when believers’ feet will finally touch the streets of gold, when they arrive in heaven and the joy of seeing Jesus face to face.

The newest recording has a modern Southern Gospel sound, but the same message. A great quartet song endures, reminding listeners of the hope and faith that define Southern Gospel music.

When my feet touch the streets of Gold
I am looking for the day when I’ll see Jesus
And His blessed face I shall behold
With the saints of old the half will then be told
When my feet touch the streets of gold
When my feet touch the streets of glory
When I’ve traveled my last weary mile
Will He hold my trembling hand
When before the bar I stand
Will He say my child well done
A crown of life you now have won
When my feet touch the streets of gold
If by chance some happy morning you should miss me
Don’t you weep for me because I’m gone
I’ll be at the feet of the One who died for me
When my feet touch the streets of gold
When my feet touch the streets of glory
When I’ve traveled my last weary mile
Will He hold my trembling hand
When before the bar I stand
Will He say my child well done
A crown of life you now have won
When my feet touch the streets of gold
When my feet touch the streets of glory
When I’ve traveled my last weary mile
Will He hold my trembling hand
When before the bar I stand
Will He say my child well done
A crown of life you now have won
When my feet touch the streets of gold
When my feet touch the streets of gold
Streets of gold

STATEMENT FROM THE LEFEVRE QUARTET:

The LeFevre Quartet is pleased to announce Joshua Horrell as the group’s new tenor vocalist. Horrell steps into the role following the transition of tenor Jonathan Price, who is stepping away from full-time ministry.
After more than 25 years in music ministry, Jonathan shared that his decision to step away from full-time ministry came only after much prayerful consideration. “This has not been an easy decision,” he said, “but I have peace knowing it’s the right step in this season of life.” Jonathan expressed deep gratitude to his wife, Megan, and their children for their love and support through the years, and he spoke warmly of his time with the group. “Mike and Jordan LeFevre are without a doubt true men of God, and it has been an honor to work for such men of integrity,” he shared. “From my very first weekend with the LeFevre Quartet ten years ago, I knew I wanted to be part of this ministry. Group founder Mike LeFevre expressed both gratitude and anticipation during the transition. “Jonathan has been an incredible blessing to our ministry and to audiences across the country,” LeFevre said. “We are so thankful for his dedication, friendship, and faithfulness over his time with us. At the same time, we’re excited to welcome Josh and look forward to seeing how God will continue to use the LeFevre Quartet in this next chapter.”
Jordan LeFevre added, “Josh brings an amazing voice and a genuine heart for ministry. From the first moment we sang together, it just felt right. We believe God has great things ahead for this group and for the people we’ll reach through the message of our music.”

The Message Behind “Things We Cannot Change”

TEXAS GOSPEL VOLUNTEER

The song Things We Cannot Change carries a message of faith and hope. For The LeFevre Quartet, the song is a reminder that no matter what happens in life, Jesus Christ provides strength and guidance.

Mike LeFevre explains why the group was drawn to the song:”One of the main things that attracted us to the song Things We Cannot Change is the positive message. As Christians, we deal with things every day that we don’t necessarily expect, but through Jesus Christ, He has equipped us to deal with these things. And so, I love this song. It’s a positive message. It’s all about Jesus.”

Life is full of unexpected moments. A day that starts off as routine can suddenly take a turn in ways we never imagined. Mike LeFevre reflects on this reality, “I’m sure we’ve all had a day where we started out and everything was supposed to be normal, but that day eventually turned out to be anything but normal, anything but what we expected. And it’s natural for human beings to try to fix the things that are going on around them. But as Christians, if we live by faith and realize that He is our source, we have the problem fixer on our side. This song is a great reminder that through all the things that we cannot change, He can take care of them.”

New bass vocalist Daniel Ashmore also shares his perspective on how quickly life can shift, “When I think of the song Things We Cannot Change, I think about life and how quickly things can change. One minute you’re on the mountaintop, the next minute you’re in the valley, and you don’t know what’s going to happen. You never know what’s going to change. A loved one may get cancer. Your car breaks down on you. You have no means to pay for it. Your best friend may let you down. Your government will let you down. People will let you down. Through all of that, there’s one who doesn’t change. It’s the same one who created this world. He’s not changed a bit. He’s still God. He still can help you in your situation. So no matter what you’re going through, just remember, through the things you can’t change, there’s one you can run to that will never change.”

The song includes a powerful lyric that states, “He is a Light when we cannot see.” Mike LeFevre reflects on the importance of these words:”There’s a line in that song that says, ‘He is light when we cannot see.’ And I can tell you from over the years that I’ve lived in this world, that there’s been plenty of times I couldn’t see. And He has been my light because you don’t know what direction to go. You don’t know where you’re headed, and you feel so lost. Just a strange place you find yourself sometimes. I love that line that says He’s a light when we cannot see.”

Through Things We Cannot Change, The LeFevre Quartet delivers a message of unwavering faith. Life may bring unexpected challenges, but God remains constant. He is the light in the darkness, the problem solver, and the unchanging presence in a world full of uncertainty.

2 Corinthians 12:9 – “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Jordan Lefevre finds divine purpose in recovery journey

JEFF TURNER

One year after a devastating accident during a firefighter training exercise, Jordan LeFevre of The LeFevre Quartet is sharing his story of faith and perseverance. LeFevre began serving as a part-time firefighter and quartermaster for White County, GA (USA) in 2017 and was promoted to fire chief in 2022. He had the accident the following year. The incident, which left him with multiple hip fractures, has become a powerful testimony of finding purpose through adversity.

LeFevre sees divine timing in what could have been an even more tragic situation.

“I’m so fortunate,” he reflects, noting that if it had been a real emergency call, the outcome could have been far worse due to the potential presence of fire beneath the floor. The recovery period became a time of deep spiritual reflection for LeFevre.

“It took putting me in the hospital bed for a little while and sitting me at the house to truly realize God’s plan for my life and where it’s heading,” he shares. The extended recovery time allowed him to analyze his life’s direction and purpose in ways he might not have otherwise.

Today, LeFevre has made remarkable progress in his recovery. He has retired as fire chief, but The LeFevre Quartet continues their ministry with their latest release, “Things We Cannot Change,” a fitting title that echoes the themes of acceptance and faith that LeFevre has experienced firsthand through his journey.

His story serves as a powerful reminder of how challenging circumstances can lead to unexpected blessings and deeper spiritual insights.
