OPP Investigates Church Theft in Southern Georgian Bay

A church in Victoria Harbour fell victim to a break-in and theft just before the New Year. The Southern Georgian Bay OPP is now seeking the public’s help to solve the crime.

On December 30, 2024, staff at St. Mary’s Church discovered that someone had broken into the building overnight. The culprits smashed a window to gain entry and made off with $1,500 worth of grocery gift cards, according to a press release.

The stolen gift cards, valued at $30 and $60 each, can be used at Foodland and No Frills stores.

As the investigation continues, the community is urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Deception in the Last Days: A Warning for Believers

In discussions about the Second Coming, many focus on tribulation, war, and judgment. However, a crucial aspect often overlooked is deception. Jesus himself emphasized the prevalence of mass deception in the end times, particularly in Matthew 24. He cautioned his followers to be vigilant, stating, “Take heed that no man deceive you” (NASB).

This warning raises questions about the vulnerability of true believers to misleading influences. While it’s possible for Christians to be temporarily led astray, especially those new to the faith, the Bible assures us that those who genuinely belong to Christ will not be permanently deceived.
The Apostle Paul addresses this issue in Ephesians 4:14, comparing new believers to children who can be easily swayed by false teachings. This underscores the importance of spiritual growth and maturity in resisting deception.

Looking ahead to the future, Matthew 24 describes a time of intense deception. However, it also offers reassurance that God will protect His chosen ones by limiting the duration of this deceptive period. This divine intervention prevents even the elect from being hopelessly misled.

In our present day, the Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in safeguarding believers against deception. This protection extends into the future, where God’s constraining power will continue to shield His people from ultimate deception.

As we navigate these challenging times, it’s essential for believers to remain grounded in their faith, grow in spiritual maturity, and trust in God’s protective care.

Tribute Quartet Takes Unusual Approach to New Single

Tribute Quartet has made an interesting choice for their latest radio single. Instead of releasing a new song, they have decided to use a track from an earlier album.

Josh Singletary, Baritone vocalist and pianist, explained this uncommon decision. He said, “We actually decided to go with a single from Volume 1 of our Quartet Tribute series. Come on, let’s go to that land. Old Rex Neelan song.”

Singletary pointed out that it’s not usual for a group to choose a song from a previous album as a radio single. However, Tribute Quartet had a special reason for this choice.

The group is planning a new tour for 2025 called “Tribute Quartet’s Quartet Tribute tour.” To prepare for this tour, they wanted to include their new members on the first volume of their Quartet Tribute series.

“We decided to put the new guys on the first volume. They are who is with us and They love those songs. They really love singing those songs,” Singletary explained.

This decision allows the current group members to be featured on the album they will be promoting during the tour. Singletary added, “So we thought you know what for this tour Let’s put them on that album. So when we carry it, it’s them. It’s the current group.

Threats to Christian Communities in Syria This Christmas

Syrian church leaders have advised Christians to scale back Christmas celebrations this year, despite assurances from the newly empowered Islamist group that religious freedom will be respected.

On December 18, a Greek Orthodox church in Hama was attacked by unidentified gunmen. The assailants entered the church compound, attempted to destroy a cross, and damaged headstones in a nearby cemetery.

In Damascus, residents of Bab Touma, a predominantly Christian neighbourhood, were unsettled by SUVs driving through the area playing Islamic songs at high volume.

The Iraqi Christian Foundation has reported that Christians in Maaloula, an ancient town in southwestern Syria where Aramaic is still spoken, are being threatened with expulsion by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militant group. The organization described this as an act of ethnic cleansing.

Rights activists have also raised concerns about the lack of internet access and communication in Maaloula, warning of a potential massacre in this historically significant Christian town.

The Iraqi Christian Foundation, which advocates for Christian rights in West Asia and provides aid to Christian genocide victims in Iraq and Syria, shared this information on social media, calling for prayers for Syrian Christians.

Southbound’s Insight into a New Year and New Kind

Southbound is set to mark 32 years as a band in 2025. Clint Brown recently shared a perspective on the concept of a new year.

“I’ve learned through the years that at the end of the year, we all say the same thing, happy new year, as that clock ticks right over midnight. And I’ve learned through the years that new is two different things: There’s a new in time, and there’s a new in kind.”

Brown went on to illustrate this concept with a clever analogy:

“If I have a car that’s a 2015 Honda Accord and someone gives me a 2023 Honda Accord, they’ve only given me a car that’s new in time. But if they give me a 2023 Mercedes, that’s a new kind of car.”

Applying this idea to the concept of a new year, Brown pointed out, “Every year, we get the same amount of time that we had in the last year.”

Brown concluded his thoughts with a heartfelt wish for Southbound’s listeners, “So, my prayer for you this year is that you would not have just a new year in time, but that you would have a new kind of new year. So, from southbound to all of you that are listening, we pray this year that God gives you a brand new, happy, new kind of year.”
