SPECIAL DAYWIND RECORDS

The second member of the SGMA Hall of Fame Class of 2021 has been named. Marlin Taylor receives the honor.

Mr. Taylor is being honored for his contributions to the genre of southern gospel through his work in satellite radio. XM Radio began in September of 2001. One of the formats that people kept requesting was southern gospel. Mr. Taylor was instrumental in establishing XM’s southern gospel channel, Enlighten.

Mr. Taylor managed the channel and for many years traveled to concerts gathering interviews and other elements that would be enjoyed by listeners. XM Radio would later merge with competitor, Sirius Radio to create Sirius/XM Radio. Enlighten has continued to be a very popular channel on the subscription-based service.

On a side note, Mr. Taylor is considered to be the father of the Beautiful Music format, finding great success in programming instrumental music, first in Philadelphia in 1963, before programming it in other cities. His radio career spans more than 50 years.

GloryWay Quartet prayer request

SPECIAL GATEWAY MANAGEMENT

Nashville, TN (6/23/2021): GloryWay Quartet has asked for prayers for their longtime bass singer, Justin Sayger. He will be undergoing heart surgery today to replace a pacemaker and install new batteries in his defibrillator. The surgery is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.

Justin has shared his powerful testimony across the nation. his birth mother was a severe drug addict and abandoned him at birth. He was adopted by incredible Christian parents who instilled a love of Southern Gospel into him at a young age. At seventeen years of age, Justin suffered a massive heart attack. Seeing God’s plan for his life, Justin has used his story to impact people everywhere he goes.

“We have been blessed to watch this young man minister across the nation. He loves people and loves what God allows him to do. We ask for prayer over Justin as he goes through this surgery and the recovery process,” stated Justin Crank, GloryWay Quartet.

GloryWay has been incredibly busy as of late with appearances at Dollywood, a full concert schedule and a taping for Daystar’s Gospel Music Showcase. Sayger is expected to rejoin their tour as soon as he has recovered from surgery.

For more information go to GloryWayQuartet.com or follow them on Facebook.

Provinces lifting some restrictions, but concerts remain canceled, postponed or in limbo

William Desjardins / Janet Johnson

Southern and Country Gospel concerts have been no stranger to cancelations since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.  I wish I could fill this page with a list of concerts and appearances but that’s not possible today.

The Amundruds appearances in June have been called off, but according to the group’s webpage July is still a go for the Lea Park Rodeo Grounds, Lea Park, Canada. The Chitans of Toronto do not have any scheduled performances listed on the group’s website. I scanned around the net tonight hoping to find concerts to report, but that didn’t happen. While the list of provinces easing restrictions is growing, there is still a long way to go.

If you know of a Southern Gospel or Country Gospel concert that is still scheduled and approved by local authorities, please let us know so we can post it here.  The email address is office@texasgospel.ca Texas Gospel Canada offers free on-air and on-line promotion of Gospel concerts anywhere in Canada. We do not sell advertisement and do not accept donations.  Our goal here is simple: Spread the Gospel and help those who do so through music.
