Grant Gibson of Karen Peck & New River Welcomes Second Son, Harrison Scott Gibson

SPECIAL: DAYWIND RECORDS

Karen Peck & New River’s Grant Gibson and his wife Susannah welcomed their second son into the world 17 August. Harrison Scott Gibson arrived at 5:22 p.m. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces and 19 and a half inches long. Grant says fatherhood has been a great blessing.

“Honestly, I love everything about it. I didn’t know what to expect, but it’s been one of the best things that’s ever happened in my life. One of my favorite things to do is actually pick him up from school when I’m home, see that excitement. Most of the time, people aren’t that excited to see me, but he is. We have a fun. We go to the park, and I’ll take him places. His favorite thing to do is go to the aquarium in Atlanta, so we’ve done that a few times,” said Grant.

Harrison, Susannah, Grant and big brother, Oliver are all doing great!

Karen Peck Gooch Celebrates 44 Years in Southern Gospel

JEFF TURNER

Karen Peck Gooch recently celebrated an extraordinary milestone: 44 years in Southern Gospel music. Reflecting on her journey, Karen marvels at the time she’s spent on the road.

“I tell everyone, I’m just a hometown girl whose dream came true,” Karen shares. “I joined Uncle Alf and the Lefevre’s on June 26, 1980. Then, exactly one year later, on June 26, 1981, I joined the Rex Nelon Singers. I have been incredibly blessed to travel with such wonderful people,” she says, fondly referring to Rex Nelon and The Lefevres as “legends” and “heroes.”

Karen maintains that both groups still feel like family to her today.

Currently, Karen tours with her group, Karen Peck and New River. This talented ensemble has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has won nine GMA Dove Awards. Most recently, in 2021, Karen was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and was voted Favorite Soprano in the Singing News Fan Awards.

Karen Peck and New River’s song delivers a solid message

DAVID INGRAM

Six-time Grammy nominated, nine-time GMA Dove Award winning Karen Peck Gooch says she believes New River’s song “Be Ready” is a song of hope.

“I think with everything that’s happening in the world, we can see that there’s so much division and now more than ever, we need to get the message out of hope and our only hopes through Jesus,” she said.

This is the theme of the group’s new song, Be Ready. Speaking on that theme, Karen said, “If we will make sure that we know Jesus and make sure that everyone’s saved, we just wanna make sure that everyone knows that the word says that the only way we get to heaven is through the blood of Jesus.”

The lyrics are a strong point of the song, but that’s not to diminish the music. The group has evolved throughout the past 30 years together and continues to deliver a progressive Southern Gospel Music sound mixed with traditional styling that has made them a fan favorite.

Karen Peck-Gooch credits Pastor’s sermon as inspiration behind new release

DAVID INGRAM

The newest release from Karen Peck and New River is The Keepers. It’s the latest release from album 2:22 and gets its inspiration from a sermon that made an impression on Karen. She said the song springs from a message delivered by Pastor Calvin Ray Evans.

Karen says the sermon spoke of, “…the people who are always doing things for others but never expecting anything back”

She went on to say, “I was so blessed by this sermon that I took it to Mitch Wong and Tony Wood, and I was explaining to them about the sermon.”

The talented writers agreed it would make a great song and put pen in hand.

”I’m very passionate about this song and I really pray that this will be a great encouragement to so many people,” said Karen.

The song is released on the heels of Answer is Jesus.  It comes from the same album and quickly climbed to the top 10 of the Texas Gospel Canada’s monthly top song list following its release earlier this year.
