A thought for today: God’s Steadfast Character and Its Impact on Our Lives

JEFF TURNER

Everything around us is constantly changing. The snow on mountaintops melts in the summer, running down as rivers, only to be covered again by fresh snow when storms come. The ocean, vast and powerful, loses water to the sky as the sun evaporates it. Even the sun needs to be refueled by the Almighty to keep burning.

Our bodies also change over time. The cells in my body today are probably not the same ones I had a few years ago. My body is constantly shedding old parts and gaining new ones. Though it looks similar, it’s always being renewed in small ways.

The earth itself is in a constant state of change, like a flowing river where water moves on, but the river remains. Yet, God is different. He is spirit, not made of anything physical that changes, so He stays the same forever.

God has never aged or grown weaker. He doesn’t get tired or forgetful. He is always the same – the eternal “I AM.” Even when He became a man in the person of Jesus, His divine nature did not change. From His birth in a manger to His death on the cross, He remained fully God.

None of God’s qualities change. He is as powerful now as He was when He created the universe. His wisdom and knowledge are the same as they were when He planned the world and our salvation. His love, justice, and truth are unchanging, solid like a rock that nothing can move.

God’s plans don’t change either. When He decides to do something, it will happen. No force in heaven or on earth can stop His plans. He doesn’t need to alter them because they are always perfect from the start.

Lastly, God’s promises remain true. He never breaks them. When He says He will do something, He will do it, whether it’s offering us salvation or holding us accountable. His promises are as unchangeable as He is.
