Harold Reed Returns as Tenor Vocalist for The Kingsmen

JEFF TURNER

The legendary Kingsmen Quartet has announced a significant and heartfelt addition to their current lineup, welcoming back veteran tenor vocalist Harold Reed. The news broke on July 5 at the Singing in the Smokies event, where Reed made his official return to the group — a move that has delighted both fans and members of the ensemble alike.

After much prayer, reflection, and unexpected turns along the way, the Kingsmen expressed their excitement about having Harold rejoin their ranks. Reed, who was previously a member of the group throughout the 2000s, became known for standout performances on fan favourites such as “I Knew It Was Him” and the #1 classic “God Saw a Cross.”

Alan Kendall, Kingsmen baritone and stage manager, shared the story behind Reed’s return: “We were thrilled when Harold simply agreed to fill in with us while we searched for a tenor. We immediately felt a great chemistry and camaraderie with Harold, and he eased back into his former post so naturally. Little did we know that Harold was wrestling with the calling to return to singing full-time.”

Following several weeks of prayerful consideration and conversations with his wife Katie, Reed confirmed his decision to rejoin the Kingsmen during the recent Squire Parsons Memorial event. Kendall continued, “Not only does Harold match the youth and energy of Cole Watson and Brady Jones with his more than 35 years of experience in gospel music, but he’s also brought a level of spiritual wisdom and discernment that has enriched our performances. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him back.”

For his part, Harold Reed shared his heartfelt enthusiasm about the decision. “When I left the road and quit singing several years ago, I would never have imagined that I’d be back out here. When the door opened again with the Kingsmen, I offered to fill in — something else I never thought I’d do. I was nervous and excited at the same time! The Lord finally made it overwhelmingly clear to me and Katie that this was the right time. It’s an honour and a privilege that after more than 30 years, I can come back and again sing with my all-time favourite group.”

Reed also expressed excitement about being part of the Kingsmen’s 70th anniversary celebrations, which are quickly approaching in 2026. The group is in the final stages of preparing a commemorative anniversary album, a special tour, and a documentary directed by Evan Bradford. In addition, Kingsmen alumnus Bryan Hutson and gospel music enthusiast Josh Griffin have launched a new podcast, Behind the Crown, dedicated to the history and ongoing journey of the Kingsmen Quartet.

Ray Dean Reese, Kingsmen owner, Hall of Famer, and 58-year veteran of the group, shared his reflections on this new chapter: “Even now, as I spend more time relaxing at home, I still sit in my office, work a little bit, and reflect on God’s many blessings over the years. I am so proud and excited about today’s group of Kingsmen. Brandon, Alan, Cole, Brady, and Harold… What a team to carry us forward!”

The Kingsmen also took time to express their sincere appreciation to Blake Buffin, Landon Farris, and Devin Smith for stepping in during this period of transition. Special thanks were extended to Jonny Baker of the Melodyaires Quartet for his invaluable support.

As the Kingsmen look ahead to their milestone anniversary, fans of Southern Gospel music can anticipate new music, fresh stories, and timeless classics delivered by a group that continues to inspire with faith, heart, and harmony.

Legacy Five Announces New Bass Vocalist, Jon Epley

AMY TURNER

Southern Gospel listeners have reason to celebrate as Legacy Five announced this week that veteran singer Jon Epley will join the group as its new bass vocalist. In February, Texas Gospel announced Epley was leaving Greater Vision.

The announcement marks a significant and warmly anticipated return for Epley, who had stepped away from full-time traveling and performing. In a statement released through the group’s Facebook page, Epley reflected on his time away and his renewed sense of calling.

“We all know that life is made up of seasons,” Epley said. “A little while back, I went through a change of seasons in my life and took some time away from traveling and singing. It was a season of drawing close to the Lord, healing, and growth. I’ve missed singing so much and am incredibly excited to be joining my great friends Scott, Lee, Tim, Jake, and Adam in a group that I have admired for a long time.”

Legacy Five founder and lead vocalist Scott Fowler shared that Epley was a unanimous choice among the group when the bass position became available.

“When we found ourselves needing a bass vocalist, every single man on the L5 bus asked me to call Jon Epley,” Fowler said. “I have loved Jon as a person and as a singer since we first met several years ago. Like so many of you, I’ve missed him while he took some time off, and I’m thrilled he’s able to travel again and do what he feels called by God to do.”

Fans can look forward to upcoming concert dates featuring the new lineup in the coming weeks. Legacy Five encouraged supporters to follow their official channels for announcements and to join them in welcoming Epley back to the stage.

The Browns release 25th anniversary recording

SPECIAL STOWTOWN RECORDS

Nashville, TN – The celebration of a new millennium in 2000 brought the uncertainties of technological advances, the election of a new U.S. President and the dawning of the 21st century. In essence, 2000 was a year of transition and change, with elements of both excitement and trepidation, as the world ushered in a new era. Yet like each one before, the new millennium saw the faithfulness of God and His ever-present promise of new beginnings.

The year 2000 certainly produced a new beginning for one family from the rural community of LeMars, IA. It delivered the dawning of a musical endeavor that would grow to impact their small community, as well as the entire gospel music world. Shelly Brown, along with her two sons, Adam and Andrew, and daughters, Jessica and Michaela, officially launched the musical ministry collectively known as The Browns. Since 2015, this family has enjoyed hosting performances at their very own Browns Century Theater in their hometown of Le Mars. The family performs to sold-out crowds five days a week during November and December and is currently in the process of building a brand-new theater that will be open just in time for the 2025 holiday season.

To commemorate their 25th Anniversary, StowTown Records announces the release of 25th Anniversary: Better Days Ahead. Produced by Grammy-nominated and multi-Dove award-winning producer, Wayne Haun, the recording features Houston’s First Worship Choir, as well as Indian Trail Worship. Just in time for the 2025 summer season, this latest recording effort is a labor of love that showcases the talents of a musical family that has dedicated their lives to bringing joy to audiences worldwide.

Michaela Brown reflects, “As we look back over 25 years and see how God has opened doors and allowed us to be on this musical journey as a family, we are deeply humbled. We love ministering and making music. The album, Better Days Ahead, is full of songs we love, songs we wrote and includes our theme song, ‘It Will Be Worth It All When We See Christ,’ which we first recorded 25 years ago!”

This 11-song anniversary collection is indicative of the joy and energy The Browns have been bringing to audiences for 25 years. Their rich family harmonies shine brightly on songs like the American classic “Put A Little Love In Your Heart,” the Andrae Crouch standard “I’ve Got Confidence,” as well as the beloved worship ballad, “Goodness of God.” Additionally, the recording features several original songs written by some of the industry’s most prolific writers. This list includes the title cut, “Better Days Ahead,” a moving anthem, co-written by Shelly Brown, that offers a strong message of encouragement to listeners of all ages, as well as “Stone of Faith” and “Something Good,” both co-written by Michaela Brown. Their current radio single, “I Know What Jesus Can Do,” is already moving up the charts, with no signs of stopping.

Michaela shares how meaningful this anniversary release is to her family, “We love sharing the message of the Gospel through song and love the people we have met and sung to over these past 25 years. We are looking forward to many more better days ahead!”

StowTown Records President and CEO Landon Beene conveys his enthusiasm for this new release, “The Browns have long been a part of the StowTown family, and we couldn’t be happier to be celebrating this career milestone with the release of their 25th anniversary project. We look forward to what the next 25 years of ministry holds for this incredibly talented family!”

From beginning to end, this recording commemorates a rich musical heritage that spans two and a half decades and has enjoyed much success with no doubt, better days ahead.

Holding to Truth: McKamey Legacy Revives Southern Gospel Sound

SPECIAL CROSSROADS RECORDS

Arden, North Carolina (June 17, 2025) — Few tasks are more difficult in the world of music than striking the right balance between embracing the legacy of a great artist and using it as the foundation for a new generation of music. Summoned into a musical ministry by their own devotion to the canon of Southern Gospel’s beloved McKameysMcKamey Legacy â€” Ruben and Peg McKamey Bean’s daughter, Connie Fortner, her husband Roger and son Eli â€” first drew praise for their ability to blend the old and new in 2022 with their self-titled debut for Horizon Records. Now the trio announces with Holding to Truth, another offering that both extends and renews the familiar McKameys sound.

The album is now available for pre-save/add ahead of its August 1 release.

With homespun yet well-crafted backing on guitars, bass and drums by Roger and Eli, supplemented with just a few additional touches from pianists Jeff Collins and Tyler VestalJosh Swift (dobro), acclaimed fiddler Andy Leftwich and legendary multi-instrumentalist David JohnsonHolding to Truth keeps its focus squarely on the signature blend of voices and the enduring Gospel messages they deliver. Indeed, from the opening “To God It’s Nothing New” and its assertive vocal, upbeat energy and powerful theme:

We are always in God’s protection, even in the darkest night
Just when everything goes wrong, He can make it right
Though the winds of the world blow strong and clouds obstruct our view
We are safe in His shelter, to God it’s nothing new

it’s clear that Holding to Truth is perfectly named.

“We are so excited for our new project to be released,” the trio enthuses. “We believe we have a great variety of songs that will help and encourage all who listen. The songs are brand new, with only a couple of older McKamey songs. The styles range from upbeat, to ballad—to even some bluegrass—but they all have a message of Hope for today.

“We were also blessed to bring the rest of the original group back (The McKameys) to record a song with us. In reminiscing on God’s goodness through the years, we were reminded we are not home yet and there is still work to do…go tell the Gospel story and carry on. We pray that McKamey Legacy continues doing this in this project and in our ministry and that you will be encouraged and blessed.”Pre-save/add Holding to Truth HERE.

About McKamey Legacy
McKamey Legacy is a family trio from Clinton, Tennessee that came to be after 39 years of full-time touring with the rest of their family, The McKameys. After that group retired in 2019, and after much prayer, group members Connie Fortner (Ruben and Peg’s daughter), her husband, Roger Fortner and their son, Elijah Fortner felt the call from God to continue the legacy of their family and they began traveling and singing again in 2021 as McKamey Legacy. The group will be touring on a part-time basis, performing songs that were loved and most requested from their McKamey days as well as some new songs that fit their message. Sharing the Gospel in song to a lost world and sharing the message of hope to discouraged Christians is their goal, following God in everything that they do and bringing Glory to God in all things done by them.
