Grant Gibson of Karen Peck & New River Welcomes Second Son, Harrison Scott Gibson

SPECIAL: DAYWIND RECORDS

Karen Peck & New River’s Grant Gibson and his wife Susannah welcomed their second son into the world 17 August. Harrison Scott Gibson arrived at 5:22 p.m. He weighed in at 6 pounds, 6 ounces and 19 and a half inches long. Grant says fatherhood has been a great blessing.

“Honestly, I love everything about it. I didn’t know what to expect, but it’s been one of the best things that’s ever happened in my life. One of my favorite things to do is actually pick him up from school when I’m home, see that excitement. Most of the time, people aren’t that excited to see me, but he is. We have a fun. We go to the park, and I’ll take him places. His favorite thing to do is go to the aquarium in Atlanta, so we’ve done that a few times,” said Grant.

Harrison, Susannah, Grant and big brother, Oliver are all doing great!

Jeff Turner with info from Family Music Group

Nashville, TN — Exciting developments are underway for the Inspirationals Quartet of Texas as they prepare for a dynamic Fall and Winter season. Known for their deep-rooted passion for gospel music and unwavering faith, the group is embracing a period of significant transition.

Ron Wills, the owner, manager, and baritone of the Inspirationals Quartet, recently announced a major change within the group. After over five decades of service, Ralph Green, who began as the pianist in 1972 before becoming the lead singer, is stepping down from his role. Wills expressed his gratitude for Green’s long-standing contributions, stating, “Ralph Green is one of the greatest singers in gospel music, and we were privileged to have him as part of the Inspirationals. His love for the Lord and his dedication to sharing his faith through music have left an indelible mark on our group.”

Reflecting on the changes, Green shared, “Fifty years with the Inspirationals Quartet—time really does fly. Some of the greatest memories of my life are tied to my time with the Inspirationals. I plan to continue serving with music as long as I have breath for it.”

As the group looks forward, Scott Brand will step in as the new lead singer. Brand, who has previously performed with notable groups like Gold City Quartet and The Perrys, is eager to join the Inspirationals. “I love quartet music and always will,” Brand said. “I’m excited to see what God has in store for this chapter of my life and to be on stage with such talented singers.”

Les Butler, producer for the Inspirationals Quartet and owner of REAL Southern Label, expressed his excitement about working with Brand. “Scott Brand is an incredible vocalist. I’ve been blessed to work with some of the best, and Scott is right at the top,” Butler said. “The Inspirationals Quartet of Texas is the next big thing in gospel music, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this journey.”

In the midst of these changes, the quartet is putting the finishing touches on their upcoming Christmas album, which is set to release in November. With a new chapter ahead, the Inspirationals Quartet is poised to continue making a powerful impact on the gospel music scene.

Faith, Science, and St. Augustine: Bridging Ancient Wisdom with Modern Debate

Nick Anderson

St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD) was an early Christian whose writings significantly shaped Western Christianity. Augustine emphasized that non-Christians often possess substantial knowledge about the natural world, including the earth, heavens, stars, and natural phenomena. He warned against Christians speaking ignorantly on these topics, as it could lead to mockery and discredit the Christian faith. Augustine’s perspective underscores the importance of Christians being informed and avoiding the appearance of ignorance when discussing matters of the natural world.

The ongoing debate between faith and science in American Christianity has intensified recently. While I do not aim to delve into these complex discussions, Augustine’s insights from over 1500 years ago remain relevant. He pointed out that unexamined assumptions and rigid stances can hinder meaningful dialogue. Let me be clear here: I am not implying that Christians should hold science over scripture. I am saying one should not not hold extrapolations from scripture about science as if they are anything but extrapolations. Christians must critically evaluate their interpretive principles, especially when they think Scripture conflicts with scientific consensus. Augustine’s writings encourage a humble and open approach, allowing for the possibility of being wrong and fostering a more constructive conversation about faith and science.

Augustine’s reflections also stress the importance of focusing on the core tenets of the Christian faith rather than peripheral scientific issues. He argued that one’s beliefs about the physical world have little bearing on their relationship with God. The primary concerns should be theological, addressing fundamental questions about humanity, God, and salvation. Augustine’s humility and willingness to admit his limitations in scientific knowledge serve as a model for modern Christians. His approach encourages believers to prioritize the essential truths of their faith while engaging with scientific matters thoughtfully and respectfully.

These are Augstine’s words written around 1,500 years ago:

Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth, the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions, about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones, and so forth, and this knowledge he holds as certain from reason and experience.
Now it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear a Christian, presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scripture, talking nonsense on these topics; and we should take all means to prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up vast ignorance in a Christian and laugh it to scorn.

When you discuss such things with non-believes, which is more important: Proving them wrong about the natural world or proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus?

The Jordan Family Band: Reviving Hearts with “Love Me Back to Life”

JEFF TURNER

The Jordan Family Band (JFB) continues to captivate audiences with their unique blend of country gospel music, familial harmony, and heartfelt ministry. Their latest song, “Love Me Back to Life,” from the album Blessed, is a testament to their musical evolution and spiritual message. Released under Daywind Records, this track promises to touch the hearts of many.

Randa Jordan, vocalist and piano player, shared her deep emotional connection to the song: “This is another one of those songs that when I first heard it, I wept like a baby because it just hit home with me. So many times through my life I failed. Yet God and all of his love and mercy has loved me over and over, saved me, rescued me, and loved me back to life. So thankful for his love and mercy on my life. I cannot wait to get out there and sing this with Heather Rose. We’ve done this as a duet. And I know it’s going to bless the hearts of people out there.”

This genuine and heartfelt message is what makes the JFB stand out in the Christian music scene. The band, comprising the entire Jordan family, brings a rare dynamic to the stage. Their energetic live performances, coupled with the harmonious blend of their voices, create a unique worship experience. Their active presence on social media has further amplified their reach, inspiring and encouraging millions through interactive live videos.

The JFB’s journey to prominence began in 2017 when they experienced a breakout year, garnering over 18 million social media views across Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. The album’s first single climbed to #28 on the Singing News Gospel chart, while the second single, “My God Is Faithful,” became a defining song for the group, reaching #8 on the iTunes Christian Singles chart and #34 on the Singing News Top 40.

In 2018, their sophomore album, Reach, debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Southern Gospel Chart, and three of its singles made it to the top 40 nationally. The JFB’s efforts were recognized when they were awarded the AGM’s Breakthrough Artist Of The Year Award in 2018.

In 2020, the band introduced a fresh sound by collaborating with Grammy-nominated musician and producer Gordon Mote, along with New Day Distribution, to release Little More Love. This album, featuring six original songs by Josh and Randa Jordan and six others by top industry writers, showcases the band’s versatility and creativity.
