Bill and Gloria Gaither Honoured with Honorary Doctor of Music Degrees by Liberty University

Renowned Gospel songwriters and performers Bill and Gloria Gaither have been recognized by Liberty University with individual honorary Doctor of Music degrees, celebrating a lifetime of service through music and ministry.

For decades, the Gaithers have inspired believers around the world with songs such as Because He Lives, It Is Finished, He Touched Me, and There’s Something About That Name. Their work has become a cherished part of worship in churches globally, offering enduring messages of faith and hope.

Liberty University awarded the honours in recognition of their devotion to Christ and their influence on the Church’s musical and spiritual life. The university’s citation praised their “unwavering service to the Kingdom of God through their God-given talents.”

“With all the honours, rights, privileges, and responsibilities thereunto appertaining, we hereby award both Bill and Gloria Gaither the honorary Doctor of Music,” the statement concluded.

Their legacy continues to shape generations of Christian artists and worshippers, carrying the Gospel message through the universal language of song.
