What Is Truth? Insights from John 18:37

In John 18:37, Jesus clearly says the reason for His coming into the world — to testify to the truth. He adds that everyone who belongs to the truth listens to His voice. In response, Pilate asks a question that has echoed through history: What is truth?

Pilate’s question reflects a world where truth is often bent for personal gain and power. In his position, truth was something to be shaped to suit political needs, not an unchanging standard. The religious leaders at the time were no different, clinging to their own motives and interests.

In contrast, Jesus’ kingdom is not built on lies, influence, or control, but on what is eternally right. Even while facing death, Jesus holds firmly to this truth. Through His sacrifice, He carries the weight of humanity’s sin and offers salvation to those who choose to believe.

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
